Belgian Pro League match report Club Brugge v Gent
Percy Tau's Club Brugge opened up a four-point lead at the top of the Belgian First Division A after thrashing rivals Gent 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at Jan Breydelstadion. Fresh from his exploits in the UEFA Champions League against Real Madrid, Tau was named in the line-up for Brugge, as manager Philippe Clement kept the same side that earned a 2-2 draw against Los Blancos in midweek. The hosts had a great start as Vanaken opened the scoring with a powered header in the 12th minute from the centre of the box following a cross from Diatta on the right channel. Brugge gained momentum and managed secure the two-goal cushion in the 28th minute after Diatta reacted the quickest to strike from close range after Tau was tackled inside the box, with the ball falling kindly to the Senegalese. The Bafana forward was uncomfortable after that challenge and was withdrawn with four minutes remaining of the first stanza. Brugge were on the front foot in the early stages of the second stanza and went 3-0 up six minutes after the break as Dennis made headway inside the box to fire a low shot into the bottom corner. After a quiet spell in the second half, Mbaye Diagne eventually made bagged the fourth goal in second-half stoppage time with a neat finish towards the bottom corner after being setup by Vanaken as Brugge moved points clear at the top.
