Bay United eye R1-million incentive

All the goals came during a dynamic 17-minute first half spell, which saw Lizo Genu, Khayalethu Ngangqu and Jimmy Jakazeke putting the issue beyond doubt.

However, second-placed Maritzburg United, who also picked up maximum points against lowly Hanover Park, had to work a lot harder for their victory at Vygieskraal on Friday night.

The teams were level-pegged at 1-1 until the 75th minute when a Collen Zimba strike shocked the faithful home fans. The score was 2-1.

As far as the relegation stakes are concerned, this result, coupled with the fact that Western Province United shocked Ikapa Sporting with two goals in the last six minutes to win their match at Erica Park by the same score line, adds enormous pressure on Park.

The two sides share 12 points but Province has an inferior goal difference.

And another late strike by Nathi Lions’ Sandile Gumede saw the third-placed club maintain the pressure on the two front runners, but their 1-1 draw against FC Cape Town makes it almost impossible now for Lions to reach the play offs.

In the Inland Stream, struggling Witbank Spurs scored a vital 1-0 victory over high-flying FC AK at Eldorado Park, which gives them much hope of avoiding the drop – the winning goal coming from Rhulani Ngunvule in the 34th minute.

But with just four games to go, second-placed Winners Park failed to close the gap after they were beaten 2-1 by Mpumalanga Black Aces.

And with African Warriors defeating Ga-Rankuwa United 2-1 at the Odi Stadium, there are still five clubs in with a chance of reaching the play-offs, including Dynamos, who were held to a 1-1 home draw by University of Pretoria.

Dynamos, Warriors and Winners Park are neck and neck each on 25 points, five behind FCAK, while Aces are one win below – which means the next few weeks are going to be very, very exciting.
