'That would make me happy' - Mthethwa addresses Chiefs, Pirates links

Sought-after Sibongiseni Mthethwa has addressed the reports linking him to a move to one of the Soweto Giants, with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates both understood to be in pursuit.

With the transfer window set to slam shut on Friday, the signature of defensive midfielder Mthethwa has become a highly sought-after one, with Amakhosi believed to be leading the race for the Bafana midfielder.

KickOff reported that that the Naturena-based has side has gone as far as submitting an official bid in the region of R8 million for the former Black Leopards man, while rivals Pirates are also interested.

Speaking to GagasiFM Sports on Monday, Mthethwa said he was flattered by interest and that the decision would be up to the clubs.

"When people talk about you, that means that they are wishing good things for you and as people wish good things for me, I'm very happy about that, I won't lie," Mthethwa said.

"But ultimately, it's not up to me whether things like that happen, it's up to the teams [to find an agreement]. What I can say for now is that no one has spoken to me, personally.

"What I can also say is that whoever has to speak, will speak to the team. For now, I'm fully focused on Stellenbosch, and I'm determined to work hard and achieve anything I can achieve with Stellenbosch, everything else will find me on the way.

"There are many teams in South Africa, there are many teams in the entire world if maybe I could get a chance to showcase myself outside of the country, that would make me happy. If I get a chance to also showcase myself in any other South African team, that would also make me happy and I would continue working hard. Basically, wherever I am, I will always work hard."

Meanwhile, Stellies head coach Steve Barker expressed his frustration at what is now seemingly Chiefs' public pursuit of their key-man.

"As a coach, I wouldn't do that (speaking publicly about a player contracted to another team)," Barker told journalists after Stellies' draw against Golden Arrows over the weekend when asked his thoughts on Ntseki's comments.

"It is a bit frustrating when it goes out to the media because the player is a Stellenbosch player and for me that is not the way to show it (interest)."

The signing would be a coup for Chiefs, who are also reportedly considering centre-back Luke Fleurs, while Stellies either look to cash in on Mthethwa who has a year left on his contract, or hold on to their key player having already lost Junior Mendieta to Mamelodi Sundowns.
