Greenwood set for shock Man Utd U-turn?

With a decision on his stay at Manchester United reportedly imminent, suspended striker Mason Greenwood could now be set for a shock U-turn on his future at the club.

Greenwood has not been a part of the United first team squad since the beginning of 2022, when he was arrested by police on suspicion of rape and assault, before he was further charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

While those charges were ultimately dropped in February this year, the club is still conducting an inquiry of their own into the matter.

With the record Premier League champions believed to be nearing a conclusion to their investigation, the England international now believes he could end up staying with the Red Devils after all, according to The Sun.

It is claimed the player and United chiefs have held positive conversations in recent days, which could ultimately see him being reintegrated back into the first team, despite previous concerns this could upset the club's women's side and some of its commercial partners.

"He's being encouraged to speak publicly and to have his voice heard," a source told The Sun.

"But, privately, he has told those close to him that he has learned a huge amount.

"He became a father for the first time earlier this month and realises he has to grow up."

There has been reported interest in Greenwood from teams in China Turkey and Serie A, with the likes of AC Milan, Juventus, AS Roma and Atalanta all believed to be keen on signing the ambidextrous forward if United decide to part with him, even if only on a temporary basis.
