Sundowns prodigy receives encouragement from Kekana

Retired midfielder Hlompho Kekana has pushed up the volume in giving praise to rising talent Cassius Mailula.

Mailula has set alight the scene with five goals in seven appearances after breaking into the star-studded first team at Sundowns.

Just last month another Sundowns legend Alex Bapela – who also hails from Limpopo like Mailula – raved up the 21-year-old for greatness declaring that he will have a better career than Percy Tau.

"I think at this present moment he is on the right track of trying to give performances in every match that he plays," says Kekana.

"We are talking about a youngster who needs to be guided properly in that space because one (media) article can destroy the poor kid.

"But I like how he applies himself in matches. I like his attitude.

"I think he can a big thing in South Africa if he works extra hard.

"He has an eye for goal, and we have seen that in the matches that he has played.

"He is exciting, and you can tell the kid is enjoying playing football.

"With the hyping part, I cannot control that as it is up to him how he takes that.

"He is a good player without a doubt.

"The structure (at Sundowns) is good, and they are fortunate to play in the Champions League and for me, if you manage to play in that space continuously you stand a chance of developing as a player because of different game models that are applied in the tournament.

"As a player of his calibre, he is a kid that needs to be guided properly and the experience you can only get on the field of play.

"If he continues to play the way he plays I'm sure he is going to develop properly and be a good player for the country.

"At the present moment I have no doubt that with the attitude that I have in the matches he has played he is a good product for Mamelodi Sundowns," says Kekana.
