UEFA Europa League

Manchester United edged closer towards the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League with a 4-0 win over Real Sociedad in the first-leg of the last 32 stage in Turin on Thursday evening.

With the match played in Italy due to Covid-19 restrictions, United went to halftime one goal ahead courtesy of Bruno Fernandes, who went on to complete his brace soon after the interval.

Marcus Rashford netted the third late in the second half while Daniel James rounded off the evening with the final nail in the coffin in the dying stages of the match.

Tottenham Hotspur joined their English Premier League counterparts on the winning trail following a 4-1 victory away to Vfl Wolfsburg at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.

First-half goals from Heung-Min Son, Gareth Bale, Lucas Moura and substitute Carlos Vinicius's late strike spearheaded the LilyWhites to the win after a troubling run of form domestically.

Wolfsburg's sole reply came from the penalty spot through Michael Liendl following a foul in the area, as the return-leg concludes next Wednesday.

Serie A giants AC Milan were pegged back right at the death against FK Crvena Zvezda at the Red Star Arena in Belgrade.

After surrendering top spot in the league over the weekend, Milan entered halftime ahead through Radovan Pankov's own-goal but Guelor Kanga levelled from the spot early in the second stanza.

Crvena were reduced to ten players before the end through Milan Rodic after Theo Hernandez restored the Italians the lead from the spot before Milan Pavkov levelled at the death.

Fellow Premier League side Leicester City were left to rue a frustrating evening in Prague with a goalless draw against Slavia Praha.

The Foxes, who impressively put Liverpool to the sword last Saturday, featured the big guns in Jamie Vardy, James Maddison, Harvey Barnes up top with Wilfred Ndidi in the middle of the park.

However, neither of the aforementioned figures was able to lead their outfit to a first-leg win ahead of next Thursday's return tie.
