UEFA Champions League match report Paris Saint-Germain v Real Madrid

Paris Saint-Germain started their UEFA Champions League campaign with a 3-0 rout of Real Madrid on Wednesday evening, despite missing Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Edinson Cavani.

Zinedine Zidane gave Eden Hazard his full debut, while Eder Militao replaced captain Sergio Ramos who was suspended. Meanwhile, PSG were without Neymar due to suspension carried over from last season while Edinson Cavani and Mbappe were injured.

The hosts had a dream start as Angel Di Maria opened the scoring against his former team with a neat finish inside the box, following a cut-back from Juan Bernat.

Thomas Tuche's charges had their tails up after going ahead and Di Maria got PSG's second goal 12 minutes before the break with a dipping strike towards the bottom corner after he was picked out by Idrissa Gueye.

Los Blancos found the back of the net two minutes later with Gareth Bale netting a stunner, but the goal was disallowed after the Welshman controlled the ball with his hand before pulling the triggger.

The Parisians had the upper hand early in the second-stanza and Pablo Sarabia was unlucky not to make it 3-0 in the 62nd minute after chipping a shot over goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Zidane was desperate turn the game around in the last 20 minutes, as he made a double substitution, with Lucas Vazquez and Luka Jovic replacing Hazard and James Rodriguez.

Karim Benzema also found the net for the visitors with 13 minutes remaining after slamming home from a tight angle but the goal was again ruled out for offside in the build-up.

However, Thomas Meunier found the third goal for Tuchel's men in stoppage time, after netting into a gapinng net after being setup by Bernat following a counter-attack to seal a comprehensive 3-0 victory.
