UEFA Champions League match report Paris Saint-Germain v Manchester United

A late goal from Marcus Rashford gave Manchester United a 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in their UEFA Champions League group stage opener on Tuesday evening.

Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly and Mason Greenwood, but United had Bruno Fernandes as captain while Paul Pogba started on the bench as Danilo Pereira debuted for the hosts in midfield.

Angel Di Maria came close to haunt his former side with a sharp left-footed curler from the right leaving David De Gea to an outstretched save and smothered Layvin Kurzawa seconds later.

The Red Devils went in front from the penalty spot on 23 minutes when Fernandes needed two attempts to send Keylor Navas the wrong way after Abdou Diallo brought down Anthony Martial.

Fernandes looked for a brace following the last eight minutes to the interval, but Navas went across to push the Portuguese' long-range drive for a corner-kick.

PSG switched up their attack at the start of the second half, with Moise Kean introduced for Senegalese international Idrissa Gueye.

Kylian Mbappe, who had a quiet first half, sprung to action two minutes from resumption when he twisted in from the left side of the area before bringing De Gea to an excellent stop.

PSG were all square after Martial directed a corner from Neymar into his own net on 55 minutes with the host' pressure play finally paying off.

Martial looked for redemption from a ball into the area minutes later, but his header failed to trouble their opposite number Navas.

Navas was down at full stretch in the last 12 minutes when the Costa Rican parried Rashford's first-time strike, while De Gea smothered Neymar's rasping strike at the other end.

United regained the lead in the last three minutes when Rashford got past his marker to find the bottom corner after a pass from Pogba to seal a big win for the men from Manchester.
