UEFA Champions League match report Manchester City v Dinamo Zagreb

Manchester City shrugged off a disjointed first half to see off Dinamo Zagreb 2-0 in their UEFA Champions League Group C encounter at the Etihad.

Kevin De Bruyne was an obvious absentee for City, but Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva and Joao Cancelo returned in defence and attack respectively.

City were in on the act in the first five minutes as Aguero broke the lines for a one-on-one, but Dinamo goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic smothered the Argentine.

Iikay Gundogan rattled the top of the woodwork after a powerful shot from a side-field delivery 21 minutes on the clock.

Dinamo remained on the back foot, as the Citizens covered every distance and space in both defence and attack with the first half coming to a close.

City continued to struggle in attack following the restart, with Dinamo pegged on the edge of their defensive area.

Raheem Sterling was tasked to change this as he entered from the bench on 56 minutes, with Bernardo Silva removed. And the Englishman didn't disappoint as he tapped home David Silva's low cross from inside the area on 65 minutes.

Dinamo were now well open but searched to a new approach to keep City at bay, however none propped up leaving the visitors on the cusp of a battering.

Riyad Mahrez nearly made matters safe five minutes to the end with a tap-in inside the area, but Livakovic denied the Algerian. However, Phil Foden sealed the win with the last kick of the game as he collected Sterling's pass to finish into the bottom corner, as City top Group C with back-to-back victories.

Other Group C result:

Atalanta 1-2 Shakhtar Donetsk
