Juventus gave Andrea Pirlo a winning start in the UEFA Champions League with a 2-0 win over FC Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday evening.
Pirlo, who starred prominently as a player in the Champions League, got his first Champions League match in the dugout for Juve, who were without Cristiano Ronaldo but gave Federico Chiesa a tournament debut.
Chiesa questioned the home side 12 minutes in with the aftermath of an overstep from the left-side bringing Dynamo goalkeeper Georgiy Bushchan to palm for a corner-kick.
Captain Giorgio Chiellini was unfortunate not to open the deadlock from the resultant corner after heading wide of the near post. That was also the veteran defender's last involvement as a hamstring injury on 18 minutes forced his removal and paved Merih Demiral's introduction.
Juventus remained on the prowl inside the half-hour mark despite the interruption after a ball from Aaron Ramsey picked out Dejan Kulusevski, who had Bushchan scrambling off a smart effort.
The Serie A champions made their firs- half dominance count straight after halftime when Alvaro Morata pounced on a spill by Bushchan to smash the roof of the net.
Paulo Dybala appeared off the bench for the Old Lady ten minutes from the break, with Kulusevski who had a massive hand in the opener ejected.
Dynamo enjoyed little to no joy either side of the spectrum, as the Bianconeri seized total control through the likes of Dybala, Ramsey and Chiesa.
This subsequently changed inside the closing stages after a spell of persistent pressure from Dynamo had Serhiy Sydorchuk leaving Wojciech Szczesny rooted with a half-volley.
Morata put the contest to bed in the final six minutes with a first-time header after meeting a cross from the right-side from Juan Cuadrado to give Pirlo a winning start.
