UEFA Champions League: Bruno Fernandes named Manchester United captain for Paris Saint-Germain clash

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named Bruno Fernandes as the captain for Manchester United's 2020/21 UEFA Champions League opener against Paris Saint-Germain.

With regular captain Harry Maguire not included in United's matchday squad due to a muscular tear, Solskjaer has confirmed that Portugal international Fernandes will wear the armband for Tuesday's clash against PSG.

"We hope Harry will be fit for the weekend. We're not sure but we hope so and the captain sits next to me – Bruno will captain the team," Solskjaer revealed in a press conference, as reported by talkSPORT.

Fernandes was caught off-guard by the announcement and was seen raising his eyebrows and smiling upon being named the Red Devils' skipper for the encounter.

"I was not expecting this, I know the same time as you," the former Sporting Lisbon star said.

"For me, it's an honour that I will be captain first of all for my teammates and of course being captain of Manchester United is an important achievement for me. But I think the captain is everyone – everyone needs to help, everyone needs to be a leader in their way."
