Ronald Koeman questions Lionel Messi form ahead of UEFA Champions League opener

FC Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman has questioned Lionel Messi's form ahead of his side's 2020/21 UEFA Champions League opener on Tuesday night.

Koeman was speaking to the media ahead of Barca's Champions League group stage clash against Ferencvarosi when he stated that the six-time Ballon d'Or was currently not performing at his best.

"Maybe, at the moment, Messi's performances could be better," the Dutchman said, per ESPN.

"But he is happy, he is working hard and he wants to be the captain. I don't have a single complaint. He has also had some bad luck. He hit the post [in the weekend's 1-0 defeat to Getafe] and on another day that goes in.

"I don't have any doubts about his performances, and we're going to see him in the upcoming games, I'm sure."

Messi has netted just once in four appearances for the Catalan giants this season, with his solitary goal for the campaign coming from the penalty spot during Barca's 4-0 LaLiga opening-day victory over Villarreal.
