Materazzi, who was part of the Inter Milan side that lifted the trophy in 2010, feels that Italian rivals Juventus will only have a chance against their Spanish opponents if they can contain the Argentine forward – and he feels prayers and fouls will help.
"In my opinion, you should pray and then commit a foul to stop him!” Materazzi told Goal.
"Messi makes the difference more than any other play. If Juventus are able to limit his actions then they have every chance.
"In any case, we are speaking about a final, a one-off game, so anything can happen."
The World Cup winner, now a coach for Indian club Chennaiyin FC, also gave his opinion of newly-elected Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez, who he worked under for a short time at Inter.
Materazzi feels Benitez had an average season at Napoli this year, and feels he will not make much on an impact at the Bernabeu.
"I expected Napoli to have an ordinary season," he said.
"I was saying that even when it seemed that things were going well. He's going to Madrid, so good luck to him, but above all, good luck to Real Madrid supporters."
