Several prospects have shown early promise and faded into obscurity in the past and many will continue, with the incredible demands of professional football superstar status needing more then just talent.
While Haaland has been likened to Ibrahmovic within the early stages of his career, it's not just his prolific scoring at 1.94m frame that bears a striking similarity - but also his confident demeanour and personality in front of the camera.
When he netted nine goals in one game in the recent U20 FIFA World Cup in Poland, he was asked if he was happy about his triple hattrick and the teenager responded: "I should have scored 10!"
This is just one of the many characteristics that suggest the two-time capped Norway striker, will become a household name in the sport over the next decade.
"I had a lot of role models and I have seen many good players, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the biggest one for me -- how he became so good, the [path] he took, the way he plays," Haaland told the club's website. "Also, he is Scandinavian, so someone has to take over from him."
Despite the glaring similarities of the Swedish icon, his father, a former Manchester City player, Alfie Haaland, revealed to ESPN FC how Ronaldo's road map to success is also something his son has taken a keen interest towards.
"Erling has always been talented," Alfie said
. "You see lots of talented young players, but not all of them have the determination.
"I have always seen hunger in Erling. From a young age, 11 or 12, he would go out on his own to an indoor hall, practice his skills and play against older boys.
"He always had that inner will to make himself better. Maybe that is what he inherited from me, because I never had his talent," Alfie continued.
"I had to be determined to make it in the game. But Erling made all the sacrifices, leaving home at 16 to move to Molde, and he is a lot more professional than I was.
"He was told a story by Patrice Evra about a lunch he had with Ronaldo and Cristiano had fish, nothing else.
"Erling now tries to do the same things because Ronaldo is 34 and still at the top of the game, so it shows the value of doing the right things."
