Champions League round-up: Sergio Aguero misses two penalties, scores a hat-trick in Manchester City win

The Citizens ran riot at the Nationala Stadium on Tuesday night in their first-leg play-off of the UEFA Champions League as they looked like scoring with every attack.

With more than 70% possession in the game it looked more of a training match, the five-goal scoreline by Pep Guardiola's side flattered the hosts as the Citizens missed a host of opportunities.

Sergio Aguero, who is considered one of the most clinical finishers in European football, missed two first-half penalties but still managed to take the match ball home with him - after grabbing a hat-trick along with Nolito and David Silva's goals in either half.

The Romanian side had the odd effort on goal as they looked to beat City on the counter but for much of the game they were clearly second best as they chased shadows for the entire fixture.

Elsewhere, Valentino Lozaro scored a vital away goal for Red Bull Salzburg against Dinamo Zagreb as they drew 1-1 at the Stadion Maksimir.

The Austia wonderkid's goal early in the second-half look set to secure the Austrians lead going into the second-leg but the Croatian side hit back with a Marko Rog penalty 15 minutes from time, leaving the tie evenly poised.

FC Rostov - 'The Leicester City of Russia', as they've been dubbed by local media almost provided Europe with another shock as they raced into an early 1-0 lead against Ajax Amsterdam.

Christian Naboa's free-kick in the 13th minute totally wrong-footed goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen to send the away fans into jubilation but the Dutch giants hit back in the 38th minute through their inspirational midfielder and captain Davy Klaasen.

Rostov, who beat Anderlecht in the previous round, will be confident going into the second-leg having secured a vital away goal but the youthful and talented Ajax side, managed by Peter Bosz, shouldn't be ruled out just yet.

Andrija Pavlovic was the difference for FC Copenhagen as they narrowly edged out APOEL from Cyprus at the Telia Parken.

In the night's other fixture, a brace from Brazilian striker Raffael handed Gladbach a 3-1 win over Young Boys to take a healthy advantage into the second leg in Germany.
