Maguire got the winning goal with a clinical header in second-half stoppage time and Amorim reveals that was the exact reason for playing the defender upfront.
"We tried to put Harry Maguire up front because he is the only one who can score a goal with a header," Amorim said after the game, as per Goal.
"Kobbie Mainoo has a lack of pace in this moment because of injury, but he's really good in short spaces."
Amorim added that the late win can help improve things in the squad.
"This kind of moment can help the players a lot in this kind of season," he added.
"It can create some connection with the fans and the players and we can forget for a few minutes what kind of season we are having.
"Today is a good feeling but tomorrow we start everything again."
