'Ronaldo might have rubbed off on Rashford'

A former Premier League star claims Marcus Rashford's impressive form this season can be attributed to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Rashford is enjoying his best scoring season in a Red Devils, as his goal against Brentford on Wednesday night took his tally 15 in the league and 28 across all competitions.

Former Liverpool and England defender Stephen Warnock claims Rashford may have taken some inspiration from his former teammate, who left the club in December after an infamous interview with Piers Morgan.

"Ronaldo might have rubbed off on him," Warnock told the BBC.

"Rashford will have seen what hard work and dedication can lead to but then it's down to him to do it so huge credit to him for wanting to get better.

"Once Ronaldo was moved out, Rashford became the main man and a lot can crumble having that weight and expectation on their shoulders. He's embraced it."

Warnock also feels that manager Erik ten Hag deserves some praise for Rashford's improvement this campaign.

"The manager and his staff have created the right atmosphere" for the forward to thrive. "They have worked with him physically and mentally, and he has come on leaps and bounds," he added.
