Diallo has since returned to training for the Red Devils, but it seems he may need to leave the club in order to get regular minutes for the second half of the season.
According to Football Insider, the Red Devils are looking to let the 21-year-old leave the club are loan when the transfer window opens next week.
Diallo has attracted interest from the Championship, where he starred for Sunderland last season as they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League.
The report adds that promotion hopefuls Southampton are leading the race to sign the Ivory Coast international on a six-month loan deal.
The Ivorian was named the PFA Championship Fans' Player of the Year after registering 14 goals and three assists for Sunderland last campaign.
The flying winger has made just nine appearances for the Red Devils first team since making the move from Atalanta in 2021.
