Man Utd 'open' to Greenwood's return

The Manchester United hierarchy are reportedly open to Mason Greenwood returning to the first-team fold.

The Red Devils are still in the process of conducting their internal investigation after criminal charges against the player were dropped in March.

Reports have suggested that the 21-year-old met with some of his teammates in secret to give them his version of events following his arrest in January last year.

The club's women's team and a section of the men's side reportedly do not want the player to return to the first-team squad, while the player has also had crucial talks with the team's decision makers.

England manager Gareth Southgate, meanwhile, is believed to have ruled that Greenwood will not return to the national team as long as he is charge.

However, the United hierarchy have chosen another direction as they refuse to rule out the player's return to the pitch, according to TEAM Talk journalist Graeme Bailey.

It is said that the side's chiefs are open to the forward coming back, with Greenwood only likely to return to training after the 2022/23 season ends.

Bailey adds that a number of Greenwood's teammates believe the young player should be allowed to come back after charges were officially dropped.

The report adds that the one unpredictable element is the change of ownership, with it remaining unknown as to how potential new bosses would want to handle the situation.
