JUST IN: Man Utd star's exit confirmed

It has been confirmed that one of Manchester United's highest-paid players will leave the club at the end of the season.

The Red Devils have thanked Raphael Varane after the France international announced his decision to part ways with the club at the end of his contract next month.

"Everybody at United thanks Rapha for his service and wishes him well for the future," the club said in an official statement.

The defender joined the side from LALIGA giants Real Madrid in August 2021, and has made 93 appearances for the 20-time Premier League winners since.

The 31-year-old also helped the Red Devils to a Carabao Cup triumph last season.

Despite being out injured since last month, the Red Devils revealed that Varane is hoping to return to action before his departure from the Theatre of Dreams.

"The centre-back has been absent since the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea on 4 April, but he is currently working hard on his recovery from injury, and hopes to be available again before the end of the campaign," United added in their statement.

The four-time UEFA Champions League winner is believed to be one of the club's highest-paid players on a reported salary of £340 000 (R7.8 million) a week.

In a farewell message to the fans posted on social media, the player reflected on his time at the club so far.

"To you guys, supporters of Manchester United, it's been an amazing few years to play for this special club and wear that shirt," the former Los Blancos star stated.

"The first time I went to Old Trafford as a Manchester United player, the atmosphere was amazing. I fell in love with that."

The defender also acknowledged the tough campaign Erik ten Hag and his side are currently enduring, but insisted that the club's future is bright.

"Despite the fact we had a difficult season, I'm very positive for the future. The new owners are coming with a great strategy," he added.
