Twente star: Chiefs were difficult to break

With Kaizer Chiefs having concluded their pre-season tour of the Netherlands with a 2-1 defeat to FC Twente, one of the Dutch team’s stars has now made an admission about Amakhosi.

Chiefs played their fifth and final match of their European tour in the Netherlands on Wednesday, suffering a 2-1 loss to FC Twente.

Of their five matches, the South African side registered one victory, with the other four fixtures ending in defeat.

Their most recent opponents, FC Twente, have since remarked that Chiefs were difficult to break down, as they needed an 85th-minute winner to claim victory.

After the match, Twente's Arno Verschueren told his club's official website: "They defended low and it was very difficult to break through.

"We could have perhaps created a few more chances," he said after the match. "I played close to Ricky (van Wolfswinkel), and because the spaces were small, I had a little less possession than in recent matches.

"It was another win tonight, and that's a relief."

The Soweto giants’ next pre-season assignment is a clash against Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko in the 2025 Toyota Cup.

The match will take place at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 26 July.
