Sekhukhune United captain Linda Mntambo has opened up on an intimate discussion with Sipho Mbule, who has multiple pairs of eyes staring at him as he begins a new chapter at Orlando Pirates.

Mbule was unveiled as Pirates' first signing of the current transfer window having become a free agent after Mamelodi Sundowns opted against renewing his contract.

He had spent last term on loan at Sekhukhune United and been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs. 

Mntambo, who got to see the man nicknamed 'Master Chef' from close range as teammate last season, revealed his wishes for the midfielder as the new campaign looms. .

"I only congratulated him, wished him well. He is a good footballer, I’m a fan of his talent and what he is capable of doing," Mntambo told journalists on Monday.

"Hopefully he gets there and takes care of himself, does well and just pays back to the people who love to see him play, the people who are supporting him. Like me, I want to see him win.

"I was close to 'Sphola'. Before he came to the club, Sekhukhune United. We had a conversation, he said, 'Skipper, I wanna come over', and I said it’s the best platform for him, it’s a team with senior and youth, a good combination of a squad we have.

"It allows you to succeed, to flourish, to shine. Look at the players we’ve had. Elias Mokwana, now in Tunisia, 'Mandaza' (Asekho Tiwani) was signed by Mamelodi Sundowns, we have players in the national team," added the man who has previously been with Pirates.

Having finished fourth last season, Babina Noko will kick off their season with an MTN8 quarterfinal match against TS Galaxy at Peter Mokaba Stadium on 2 August.
