Ten Hag to be sacked by Man Utd? Another manager 'sounded out'

A stunning new report has suggested Manchester United could be edging closer to firing manager Erik ten Hag, with a replacement already being sounded out.

It has been quite a miserable campaign for the Dutch boss, with his side having slumped to 14 defeats in 28 games this season to end 2023 on a bitter note. They also ended the year having lost 21 matches, said to be their most since 1921.

The results have only applied pressure on the manager, although some of the players have also received extensive criticism too, including Brazilian winger Antony and goalkeeper Andre Onana.

British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe's arrival as a 25% stake owner in the club is expected to bring about some big changes in the team, with the business tycoon set to oversee all sporting operations at Old Trafford.

Given how poorly the club has performed this season, there's a growing speculation that Ten Hag's job is in danger, and now, according to ESPN, another manager is being seriously considered.

The publication claims that the incoming INEOS chiefs, a company owned by Ratcliffe, have sounded out former Chelsea boss Graham Potter for the role.

With the English tactician having been without a job since he was axed by the Blues back in April 2023, it is claimed he has been informally approached about his plans for the future.

The report adds that the United co-owner would ideally like to let Ten Hag see out the season, but if results do not improve, he will not be returning to the helm next term.

It is further claimed that INEOS' CEO of sport, Jean-Claude Blanc, has been swamped with calls from agents making cases for their clients to become the next United manager.

Ten Hag and Ratcliffe are said to have held talks about the way forward earlier this week, with INEOS sporting director Sir Dave Brailsford also attending the club's latest two matches, a 3-2 win over Aston Villa and a 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest.
