Messi to end transfer saga with big decision?

Lionel Messi will reportedly put an end to his transfer saga by making a certain final decision regarding his future with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Argentine has been linked with a number of teams over the past few months as his current contract is due to expire at the end of this season.

One potential suitor is Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, who have offered to make Messi the world's highest-paid player in a deal that would eclipse that of Cristiano Ronaldo's at Al Nassr.

It has been claimed that Messi would need to drop his wage demands at PSG if he is to remain in the French capital beyond the 2022/23 campaign.

The Ligue 1 log leaders were hit by Financial Fair Play sanctions in September 2022, and there are reports that their player salaries may need to be reduced to avoid further punishment.

According to Marca, the South American has now decided to stay at Paris Saint-Germain for another season before moving to Major League Soccer, with Spanish outlet Sport reporting that US club Inter Miami, co-owned by Manchester United legend David Beckham, have not given up their pursuit of the 35-year-old.

Messi's former club FC Barcelona have also been linked with a sensational move for the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner, but their financial difficulties means it could be a struggle for them to pull off the potential reunion.

With the Argentine believed to earn a whopping £740 000 (R16.3 million) a week in Ligue 1, it remains unclear if the club will be able to reach an agreement on lowering the superstar's wages.
