PSG thrash Troyes to move six points clear at the top

Paris Saint-Germain opened a six-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 with a 3-1 victory over Troyes on Sunday night.

With Lionel Messi the obvious absentee following his reported suspension, the table-toppers relied on Kylian Mbappe and Hugo Ekitike up top.

Mbappe came good eight minutes in when the French national team captain made full use of a defensive mix-up at the back and nodded in.

PSG looked to doubled their lead ten minutes later after Mbappe played out on the left and brought Fabian Ruiz on strike, but the Spaniard failed to profit.

Ruiz was in again inside the half-hour mark when he got hold of a loose ball outside the area and got a shot in, but Troyes goalkeeper Gauthier Gallon stretched across and gathered.

The match then saw flares being thrown onto the pitch by the supporters, as the defending champions took their advantage into the interval.

Troyes attempted to draw level soon after the break in which a curler of a cross by Yasser Larouci looked to caught Gianluigi Donnarumma, but the Italian shot-stopper smothered.

However, PSG settled matters over 12 minutes after halftime this as Gallon did well to parry a header from Vitinha Ferreira but the latter was on hand to tuck in the rebound off Marco Verratti's delivery.

Two changes from PSG arrived before the last ten minutes where Renato Sanches replaced Verratti and Carlos Soler came on for Ekitike.

As the tempo dropped, the host pulled one back when Xavier Chavalerin beat Donnarumma to a ball in the box and headed in a gaping net with seven minutes to play.

The visitors, however, restored their two-goal cushion three minutes later after Ruiz raced onto a loose ball following a spill by Gallon and curled in off the post to seal maximum points.
