Neymar was suspended for PSG and was replaced by Mauro Icardi, who formed a front three with Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria.
The Parisians were struggling to break down Monaco in the early exchanges but a mistake at the back by Axel Disasi in the 19th minute led to Mbappe going through on goal and unselfishly played a square pass that was tapped home by Icardi.
The game opened up a bit, as Alessandro Florenzi came close to doubling PSG's lead in the 33rd minute with a strike from the edge of the box that was parried over the bar by goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki.
Niko Kovac's charges were growing in the game in the closing stages of the first stanza and although they were threatening to get back into the game, they could not test shot-stopper Keylor Navas in goal and PSG went to the break with a 1-0 lead.
Monaco had a bright start in the second stanza as Wissam Ben Yedder came close to finding the equaliser six minutes after the break with a first-time strike on the edge of the box that was saved by Navas.
Kovac made a double change on the hour-mark, as Stevan Jovetic replaced Ben Yedder upfront while Gelson Martins came on for Youssouf Fofana in midfield.
The changes had the desired effect for Monaco, as Martins was unfortunate not to level matters in the last 20 minutes with a deflected cross that came off the crossbar.
Mauricio Pochettino made a double change in the last ten minutes, bringing on Ander Herrera in place Leandro Paredes for fresh legs in midfield while Moise Kean took the place of Icardi upfront for the same reason.
Mbappe killed the game for PSG with the second goal in the last nine minutes after a dink over Majecki from Di Maria's through ball, a minute after hitting the crossbar with an audacious chip over the Polish goalkeeper, who was way off his line from range.
Pochettino's troops were threatening to put the icing on the cake in the dying minutes but in the end could only come away with a 2-0 win that saw them retain their crown and won it for the 14th time.
