Real Madrid suffered a humiliating 7-3 loss to Atletico Madrid in the International Champions Cup in New Jersey.

Five changes from the Arsenal draw was how Real lined-up as Thibaut Courtois, Alvaro Odriozola, Marcelo, Isco and Vinicius Junior started in the Madrid derby.

Atleti, who started their record signing Joao Felix and Kieran Tripper, hit the front inside one minute when Diego Costa found the bottom corner following a deflection from Sergio Ramos. Real were given another blow on eight minutes as Saul Niguez barged in to the area to find Felix, who needed no second invitation to rattling the net.

Angel Correa made a solid impact 19 minutes gone after replacing Alvaro Morata with an excellent bottom-corner finish from Koke's smart delivery.

Los Blancos struggles continued on 28 minutes much to the advantage of their city neighbours, who netted a fourth after Costa stationed cleverly to execute Koke's pass.

Real's first threat came to light on 39 minutes after Vinicius created space inside the area only to be denied by the post. However, Atleti were given a penalty in added time after Isco apprehended Costa in the area, with the latter firing straight down the middle for a healthy halftime lead.

After the break, Real introduced three changes in Keylor Navas, Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez with Courtois, Odriozola and Vinicius making way.

Costa continued from where he left off in the first half with a delicate lob over Navas 51 minutes in off an assist from Felix.

Real broke their duck after 60 minutes with a cool close-range conversion from Nacho after Jan Oblak failed to handle Eden Hazard's cross.

Remarkably, both sides were handed straight dismissals after five minutes with Costa and Carvajal hauled off for an off-the-ball incident.

No matter the circumstances, Atleti held their heads up high and grabbed a seventh on 70 minutes after Vitolo moved into the area to beat Navas.

Reportedy set for an exit, Gareth Bale looked for their second close to the end, but was helped in his tracks as Hector Herrera brought down Nacho inside the area, allowing Benzema to finish coolly. Real secured another a minute from time with a simple finish from Adrian de la Fuente following poor defending from Atleti, as the clash drew to a close.
