Former Barca midfielder Marc Crosas recently declared the style of play as 'dull', which he claimed is a reflection of the manager's personality.
With the high-profile signings of Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie de Jong during the off-season, a style with more fluidity and the traditions of the Blaugrana were expected, but as of yet, has not been delivered.
And now 1984 FIFA World Cup winner Claudio Borghi has claimed highly-rated River Plate head coach Marcelo Gallardo will take over the reins in December.
"Gallardo will be installed as Barcelona coach in December," Borghi said, as per AS. "At the moment he is one of the best coaches in the world.
"[River chairman Rodolfo] D'Onofrio has already said that Gallardo will only leave if he decides to quit his post, but this has come to me from a direct source."
Valverde will be hoping for an improved display when his side face up against Celta Vigo at the Camp Nou at on Saturday evening at 22:00 (GMT+2).
