Barcelona president Joan Laporta promises 3 or 4 more signings

FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has promised to sign more players after the club completed its fourth signing, Memphis Depay, ahead of the 2021/22 campaign on the weekend.

The Catalan giants' financial problems are well-documented, but president Laporta insisted during a recent interview with La Vanguardia that the club will make more signings before the new league campaign kicks off.

"There will be three or four more signings, we are creating a very competitive team," he said. "We're already seeing it with the arrivals of [Eric] Garcia, [Sergio] Aguero, Emerson [Royal] and as well as other players who are ready."

Laporta also revealed that veteran defender Gerard Pique will be accepting a lower salary to help the club financially, saying that the club is "very happy and grateful".

"There are some contracts that greatly limit us. There are things that will have to be explained and I won't rule out any measures," he added.

"We have found ourselves with a squad with out-of-date salaries and we will have to juggle.

"Existing contracts can be changed or restructured, and then there are drastic measures that we would like not to have to take. Nothing is ruled out for the good of Barcelona.

"Between salaries and amortisations we have a figure of 650 million, which is more than the club's income. These salaries are out of date."
