Pique had seen his game time reduce in the past year after the club had brought in the likes of Andreas Christensen, Joules Kounde while there was also the emergence of Ronald Araujo.

Pique established himself as one of the world's best defenders during his time with Barcelona, where he racked up 615 appearances while winning three UEFA Champions League titles and eight LaLiga crowns.

The defender also won the FIFA World Cup and two European Championship titles with the Spanish national side.
