Midfielder 'confirms' his move to Barcelona

The player FC Barcelona reportedly want to sign as Sergio Busquets' replacement has now all but confirmed the move.

Barca's transfer business in this window is in full swing has they have confirmed three signings already, namely the free arrivals of Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez, while Brazilian wonderkid Vitor Roque has also completed a €30 million (R607 million) move from Club Athletico Paranaense, but will only join the Blaugrana ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The Spanish giants are believed to have also agreed a deal for a new midfielder last week, with that transfer now close to completion.

According to reports, Barca will sign defensive midfielder Oriol Romeu from Girona in a deal worth €5 million (R101 million), plus add-ons, with Blaugrana youngster Pablo Torre heading in the opposite direction on a season-long loan deal.

Romeu himself confirmed his move to the Camp Nou after completing a medical on Monday morning, per Spanish journalist Alex Pintanel.

Speaking after his medical appointment, the 31-year-old said: "Yes, I'm happy [about the move]."

While the transfer is not yet official, an announcement is expected imminently, with reports suggesting this could happen as soon as Tuesday.

Romeu is also expected to meet up with the rest of his new Barcelona teammates in the United States for their pre-season tour.
