CONFIRMED: Messi to reunite with another ex-Barca star in Miami

Inter Miami manager Gerardo Martino has confirmed that another former FC Barcelona star will reunite with Lionel Messi at the club.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner will make his club debut for his new side early on Saturday morning (02:00 South African time) when they take of Mexican outfit Cruz Azul in the Leagues Cup, according to his manager.

In his latest press conference, Martino also confirmed that fellow new arrival Sergio Busquets will also take part in the game, and revealed that that yet another Barca legend is on his way to Fort Lauderdale.

According to Spanish outlet FC Barcelona Noticias, the Inter manager said in the presser: "Messi and Busquets will play. I do not know if they will start."

He then added that "Jordi Alba became a dad today and therefore he will only arrive in the next days".

The club has since officially confirmed his arrival.

The 34-year-old will be available to face Atlanta United on 26 July, and has been included in the club's 2023 MLS Leagues Cup roster, which reportedly shows the player's name, shirt number, and position for the tournament.

Team co-owner Jorge Mas, meanwhile, has addressed speculation that Luis Suarez could also be on his way to reunite with his ex-Barca teammates.

"Luis Suarez is a Gremio player. He has a contract. We understand the close relationship that he has with Lionel, Busquets, and Alba," the executive said.

"They played together at Barcelona. There's been a lot of talk about Luis Suarez coming to Inter Miami. We have not held direct talks with Gremio or with Suarez.

"I do not know how Luis Suarez can leave Gremio. But if he does, we are free to talk to Luis and bring him to Inter Miami. That possibility would be there."
