Arsenal humble Man Utd in EPL opener

Arsenal secured a 1-0 win over Manchester United in their Premier League opener at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.

The Red Devils put new signings Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha in the starting line-up for their debuts, while Viktor Gyökeres and Martin Zubimendi made their official debuts for the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta's men took the lead in the 13th minute when goalkeeper Altay Bayındır was unable to clear a corner on the line, which allowed Riccardo Calafiori to pop up at the far post and head into an empty net.

Cunha was United's liveliest player in the first half as he was denied by David Raya on two occasions while Patrick Dorgu hit the woodwork with a strike from distance.

United were a lot more livelier in the second period but struggled to carve out clear-cut chances as the half went on, as the Gunners held on for the win.

Arsenal are now unbeaten in six league matches against the Red Devils.

Chelsea 0-0 Crystal Palace

Chelsea were unable to claim a win in their Premier League opener after playing to a goalless draw against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.

New signings Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro started for the Blues.

There was drama earlier on when a powerful free-kick from Eberechi Eze had the Eagles ahead, but it went for a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and was ruled out after an infringement by Marc Guehi.

Chelsea struggled to hit first gear despite the quality of front-men such as Pedro, Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto and Estevao.

As for the Eagles, they continued to frustrate their counterparts and worked a few chances of their own but in the end it finished goalless.

Nottingham Forest 3-1 Brentford

Nottingham Forest made a strong start to the season after overcoming Brentford 3-1 at the City Grond.

Forest hit the front on five minutes through a stern finish from close-range by Chris Wood as the Bees fluffed their lines.

Dan Ndoye enjoyed a dream debut before halftime when he nodded in a telling delivery from Morgan Gibbs-White.

It got worse for new Bees boss Keith Andrews as Wood latched onto a defence-splitting pass from Elliot Anderson and rounded Kelleher to complete his brace on the cusp of the interval.

Andrews’ boys got a consolation later on when a hand-ball by Ibrahim Sangare from a shot by Fabio Carvalho led to a penalty and Igor Thiago did the honours to halve the arrears.
