English Premier League match report Liverpool v Norwich City

Liverpool put Norwich City to the sword with a 4-1 thumping in their Premier League opener on Friday evening,

After pushing Manchester City to the edge last season, the runners-up put out a familiar line-up with Sadio Mane a notable absentee.

The first goal of the season came after seven minutes as Grant Hanley redirected Divock Origi's cross past his own goalkeeper after trying a defensive clearance.

Liverpool doubled their tally on 19 minutes after Mohammed Salah showed esteem composure to side-foot past Tim Krul following Roberto Firmino's tee-off.

It was three on 28 minutes when Virgil van Dijk headed through the legs of Krul with little to no effort at all.

On the half-hour mark, Krul showed up with solid reflexes to deny Firmino from making it four with a well-struck volley from outside the area.

Liverpool made an injury forced change after 39 minutes, as Alisson Becker experienced a calf problem with Adrian who signed this week making his debut.

The fourth invariably arrived three minutes to halftime when Origi moved across his marker to head past Krul from inside the area.

With no changes at the break, Krul tipped Jordan Henderson's shot onto the crossbar 49 minutes in after a cut back from Origi.

Norwich pulled on the first change 58 minutes gone, as Moritz Leitner replaced Marco Stiepermann in the attacking area.

The newly-promoted side pulled a goal back after Teemu Pukki's smart shot proved too hard to handle for Adrian after 64 minutes.

Origi, who put on a solid shift made way for Mane after 74 minutes with the Reds well on their way to maximum points.

Norwich threatened a second in added time, but Adrian stood his ground to guide the Merseyside giants to an opening day victory.
