English Premier League match report Arsenal v Brighton and Hove Albion 05 May 2019

Arsenal's top-four hopes were dashed after only managing a 1-1 draw against Brighton Hove and Albion in their penultimate Premier League clash on Sunday.

Inside the opening two minutes, the Gunners worked a dangerous move into the area for Henrikh Mkhitaryan who rattled the inside post with a powerful strike.

Arsenal were given a penalty on nine minutes after Nacho Monreal went down in the area, leaving Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to snap in the opener.

From then on, a quiet spell ensued before Brighton threatened to go level on 26 minutes but Bernd Leno's quick reflexes kept out Glenn Murray who had successive attempts.

Arsenal closed in on a second six minutes to halftime, but Matt Ryan pushed Aubameyang's header behind for a corner.

In added time, Mkhitaryan stung the palms of Ryan with a powerful shot which bounced back into play before being cleared by Lewis Dunk.

Anthony Knockaert made an entry at halftime for the Seagulls, with defender Alireza Jahanbakhsh sacrificed.

Brighton were given a penalty of their own after Granit Xhaka's trailing leg from the far side of the area tripped Solly March, allowing Murray to on 61 minutes send Leno the wrong way.

Aubameyang failed to re-established the lead on 74 minutes with a horrible miss from close-range after firing in a half-volley.

Pressure mounted for Brighton, as Alexandre Lacazette attempted a half-volley a minute later but Ryan stood him off.

Arsenal made all three changes on 77 minutes, as Sead Kolasinac, Matteo Guendouzi, and Alex Iwobi came on.

Brighton threatened again on 85 minutes, as Leno angled a flying header from March straight to Pascal Gross, who fired over.

Chances kept flying in on either side in the final minutes, however honours even was how matters ended.
