Wydad make new 'decision' on Ex-Downs star

Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca have reportedly made a final decision on former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Abdelmonem Boutouil ahead of the new season.

The Moroccan defender joined Wydad on a free transfer last season after parting ways with Sundowns when his contract expired.

Boutouil came in as one of Rulani Mokwena's signings along with his former Sundowns teammates Cassius Mailula and Thembinkosi Lorch.

According to LesiteInfo, the Wydad board have decided not to terminate Boutouil's contract despite being excluded by head coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem.

Benhachem decided to axe both Boutouil and Jamal Harkas, who has since been linked with a move to the Gulf region.

The report adds that the two players will be retained at the club until suitable offers come in, as the club cannot deal the financial loss if both players terminate their contracts.

The former Sundowns defender made 23 appearances for Wydad in the 2024/25 campaign, which included playing all three group stage matches at the FIFA Club World Cup.
