Wydad management 'rethink' Lorch move after fan outcry

Wydad Athletic Club are reportedly stepping up their efforts to sign Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Thembinkosi Lorch following fan demand.

Lorch spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at the Moroccan giants from the reigning Betway Premiership champions.

His six-month stint at the Red Castle was widely viewed as successful, leading to expectations that he would remain at the club permanently.

However, financial constraints had recently forced Wydad to abandon plans to retain the South African star.

The club, under the leadership of president Hicham Ait Manna, has been grappling with ongoing financial difficulties and has faced growing criticism from supporters since last season.

Despite these challenges, Wydad fans have been vocal in urging Ait Manna and the club's management to ensure Lorch returns before the 2025/26 campaign begins.

Wydad supporters hold Nyoso, as the former Orlando Pirates star is affectionately, in high regard, particularly after his standout performances during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

According to Foot Africa, the growing backlash from fans has prompted the Botola Pro League giants' hierarchy to reconsider their stance on signing Lorch permanently, even amid budgetary concerns.

Sundowns are reportedly demanding a €1 million (approximately R20 million) transfer fee for the 31-year-old attacker. It remains to be seen whether Wydad will meet that valuation to secure a deal and satisfy their supporters.
