With Jose Riveiro reportedly set to join Al Ahly, the huge salary of his predecessor Marcel Koller has now been revealed.
Riveiro is widely believed to be the next head coach of Al Ahly, pending an official announcement from the club.
The Spanish tactician is expected to replace Koller, who parted ways with the Egyptian giants following their elimination from the CAF Champions League semi-finals at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns.

While the details of Riveiro’s proposed contract remain unclear, those of Koller’s tenure appear to have come to light.
According to former Egyptian player and current broadcaster Ahmed Shobeir, Koller had received an offer from Espérance de Tunis, but his salary at Al Ahly—reportedly $240,000 per month (approximately R4.3 million), makes him unaffordable for the Tunisian side.
Shobeir said on Sports FM: “Koller’s salary, along with his technical staff, was significant at Al Ahly. However, Espérance may be considering appointing the Swiss coach only for the duration of the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
“Koller’s contract with Al Ahly is more in line with what clubs in the Gulf region can afford, as they are able to pay such high figures, whereas Tunisian clubs maintain a salary cap.”
“It would be difficult for Koller to receive the same value contract as he had with Al Ahly unless he moves to a club in the Gulf.”
This could perhaps offer an early indication of what Al Ahly may be prepared to offer Koller’s successor, Riveiro.
