RS Berkane secured a 2-0 win over Simba SC in the first-leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final on Saturday evening.
Berkane recalled Issoufou Dayo and Imad Riahi as two changes after their semi-final exploits last month.
The Moroccan outfit got the ball rolling on eight minutes after Mamadou Camara leaped high at the near post of the area and headed in a corner-kick.
Berkane added another goal six minutes later when Oussama Lamlaoui cut-inside of two challengers in the area and picked out of the bottom-corner.
Davids changed tact following the slow start and withdrew former SuperSport United defender Abdulrazack Hamza to bring on Che Malone.
The Tanzanian giants came alive after the disappointing start, but didn’t were unable to trouble Berkane goalkeeper Munir Mohamedi to any saves.
Simba carved out a chance a minute into added time when Denis Kibu dropped a shoulder and cut-in to the near post, but he curled wide of the top-corner.
Simba made another substitution before the second half, as Kibu make way for Valentin Nouma to come on the park.
Berkane looked to have added a third hoal moments later with a simple finish from the area by Youssef Mehri, but unfortunately it was ruled out for offside by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
The Moroccan heavyweights remained on the charge and attempted to add onto their tally, but a combination of poor finishing saw their quest halted.
Davids’ men continued to battle away ahead of full-time, but the runners-up of last season emerged victorious and snatched a healthy first-leg outcome.
