Reports have suggested that the South Africa international could be set for a sensational return to his former side Mamelodi Sundowns after he was spotted watching their match against local rivals Kaizer Chiefs on 9 August.
According to Kingfut, however, that move is unlikely to due to Tau's contract preventing him from joining another African team unless he becomes a free agent.
It is unclear whether or not the forward, whose contract in Cairo runs until June 2024, will play for the Red Devils for another season, but Al Ahly boss Marcel Koller is now believed to be in search of a new striker to bolster their attack ahead of 2023/24 campaign.
One of the many strikers who have been linked with the Club of the Century is former Arsenal star Lukas Podolski, who has since seemingly availed himself as a potential signing, with the 38-year-old insisting he would be keen to play for his former boss Koller again when responding to the club's reported interest in him.
"Marcel Koller is the one who discovered me at FC Koln when I was 17 years old," the 2014 World Cup winner said, per Egyptian outlet KingFut.
"I spoke with him and sent him congratulations after his success in winning the CAF Champions League with Al Ahly.
"Playing in the Club World Cup is a great opportunity to face international teams like Manchester City. Koller might achieve a surprise and lead Al Ahly to win the title.
"No one from Al Ahly has contacted me. It's a great team with a large fan base and a history of titles, but my question to Al Ahly is whether they would accept me at the age of 38?"

The 130-cap Germany international, who now plies his trade in the Poland top flight for Gornik Zabrze, then went on to hail Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.
