Ahmed Musa explains reason behind Kano Pillars return

Former Leicester City and CSKA Moscow star Ahmed Musa has revealed the reason behind his shock return to Nigeria.

Musa, 28, returned to his homeland on Tuesday evening when he signed a short-term deal with his former side, Kano Pillars for the remainder of the 2020/21 Nigeria Professional Football League season.

The Super Eagles captain had been without a club since leaving Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia in October last year and has revealed the reason behind his decision to return home.

"Anything that improves the image of Nigerian football is something that I strive to embark on and Kano Pillars holds a special place in my heart," he told BBC Sport Africa ahead of the move.

"It's the team that helped me become the professional footballer I am today, so this is more than just football but a very strong bond."

Musa, who boasts nearly 100 caps for Nigeria, was previously linked with a return to the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion, but a move failed to materialise during the January transfer window.
