Former Manchester United first-team coach Benni McCarthy has been urged to include a local assistant in his Kenya national team technical setup.
McCarthy took charge of the Harambee Stars in March this year, returning to management after nearly a year without a club following his departure from Man United.

Upon his appointment, the 47-year-old brought in a fully South African backroom staff, including assistant coach Vasili Manousakis, goalkeeper coach Moeneeb Josephs, and performance analyst Pilela Maposa.
Since taking the reins, McCarthy and his team have overseen four matches, two in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and two friendlies. Under their guidance, the Harambee Stars have recorded one win, two draws, and one loss.
As the team shifts focus to the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, veteran Kenyan coach Bob Oyugi has called on McCarthy to appoint a local assistant to help integrate domestic insight into the team’s preparations.
"This CHAN is okay, but the advisers of McCarthy should include Francis Baraza and Nicholas Muyoti because they have performed well in the league. They are open and free," said Oyugi, per MozzartSport.
"The squad is complemented with both senior and young players, and most of the players included have shown on merit they deserve.

"What I’m sure of is that we can have a strong first 11 from this team because many of them are performers."
The Harambee Stars have been drawn in Group A alongside Angola, DR Congo, Kenya, and Zambia. They will kick off their campaign against DR Congo on August 3.
