Egyptian Premier League giants Al Ahly's management are reportedly pushing to sign an Egyptian player despite head coach Jose Riveiro's disapproval.
The Spanish tactician has been shaping his squad for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign since taking over the reins in May, joining from South Africa's Orlando Pirates.

Riveiro has already overseen three official matches, the team's participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, where the Red Devils failed to progress beyond the group stages.
The former Buccaneers mentor and his bosses have since released several players and brought in new faces, including ex-Zamalek star Ahmed 'Zizo' Sayed, to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.
However, as they continue reinforcing the team, tensions have reportedly emerged between Riveiro and Ahly’s bosses regarding the potential signing of a certain Egyptian player.
According to Ahlynews.com, the club's hierarchy is strongly considering a move for Pharco FC defender Yassin Marei, a 23-year-old former Zamalek academy product, whom they regard as a promising long-term investment.
The report claims the deal is close to being finalised, despite Riveiro reportedly viewing Marei as an average player who does not meet the club’s high standards.

Upon his arrival and prior to their trip to the United States, Riveiro made it clear that he prefers working with a small squad and can only sign players who fit his style.
This disagreement has highlighted the ongoing pressure that comes with managing Ahly, a club where expectations are high and where management often prioritises strategic signings.
