Rulani tested early after shocking player 'altercation'

Rulani Mokwena is facing an early test following a reported altercation between two MC Alger players that disrupted preparations at the Algerian giants’ training camp.

The South African tactician joined the reigning Ligue Professionnelle 1 champions just two weeks ago on a reported two-year deal, having been out of work since parting ways with Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Athletic Club in April.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor succeeded veteran Tunisian coach Khaled Ben Yahia in what was seen as a strategic appointment for the club’s future.

However, according to Erem News, a training session recently turned chaotic when Alger captain Ayoub Abdellaoui and 20-year-old midfielder Abdelmalek Kelaleche were involved in a heated argument that escalated into a physical confrontation.

According to the report, the 38-year-old coach attempted to intervene and restore order, but his efforts were fruitless as Kelaleche refused to heed his instructions.

Moreover, the situation has since intensified, with reports indicating that Kelaleche plans to press charges against the 32-year-old Abdellaoui.

More so, it is said that Kelaleche's decision to take the matter to the police was fuelled by the fact that the club's management told him to find a new home ahead of the upcoming season.

The incident has reportedly left Mokwena shocked and powerless, raising concerns about discipline and internal cohesion just weeks before the new campaign kicks off.
