Rulani outlines his plans as Alger mission begins

Newly appointed MC Alger head coach Rulani Mokwena has outlined his plans and ambitions as his journey with the Algerian side begins.

Mokwena was unveiled as the new club's head coach last week. He replaced Khaled Ben Yahia, who left the team after spending only six months.

The South African tactician was unattached following his exit from Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club in late April.

Now at the helm of the reigning Algerian champions, Mokwena inherits a team that clinched the 2024/25 league title under Ben Yahia, an achievement that sets high expectations for his tenure.

Renowned for his Tiki Taka-inspired philosophy, the 38-year-old coach has set his sights on continental dominance, with the CAF Champions League being his target, a title he has long aspired to win.

"Fortunately we are coming to a very good team already, a team that won two titles in the last season, so already there is a very good foundation for us to build from," Mokwena told the media.

"The expectations from the fans and the vision of the president is that we dominate not only Algerian football, but also other competitions. This is a team that myself and the staff are committed to, and we will do everything that we can to fulfil our objectives.

"In a perfect world, normally we try to go step by step. But I understand in North Africa there is no time for step by step and we have to try to go as fast and as rapidly as we possibly can to move the club close," added the former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor.

"I felt from the first moment that I would be coaching the biggest club in the Algerian league. We seek to provide a good performance for the team's fans, and our primary goal is to raise the level of Mouloudia and elevate it to the ranks of the greats in the African continent."
