Congo boss: We're still in the race against Bafana Bafana

Congo boss Isaac N'Gata insists his side will fight against Bafana Bafana in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier this evening, with their destiny still in their hands despite their 5-0 thumping last week.

Last Friday, South Africa ran riot against Congo as goals by Lyle Foster, Bathusi Aubaas, Iqraam Rayners, and a brace by Teboho Mokoena ensured a comprehensive victory for the hosts at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

The two sides will meet again later this evening at the Stade Alphonse-Massamba-Debat in the Congolese capital of Brazzaville.

A victory for Bafana will guarantee them a spot at the 2025 AFCON, joining other teams who have already qualified, such as Burkina Faso, Cameroon and hosts Morocco.

Congo, on the other hand, need to beat South Africa to keep their hopes of qualifying alive, and national team coach N'Gata has insisted his side will look to win the match to keep their destiny in their own hands.

"Of course, we're here to win this match, because by winning, our destiny is in our hands," he told Ziana TV.

"If we have a completely different result, it doesn't depend on us, but by winning, we'll have destinies in our hands, and that's our objective, to get the three points at home every time, and then to get a result away from home.

"So for the moment, it's not good compared to what we had as a result, the score of the match.

"But today, we're still in the race, we have to fight for it.

"Come and support us, we fear a few small mistakes, but please, come with us.

"In the end, we'll get used to it and that's my greatest hope."
