Chippa United assessing Nigerian striker Oke Akpoveta

The highly rated 27-year-old landed in the country on Thursday and has previously played for Warri Wolves (Nigeria) and Scandinavian teams like Brondby IF, Lyngby Boldklub and Helsingborgs IF. His last professional team was AFC Eskilstuna in Sweden.

Chilli Boys head coach Clinton Larsen confirmed the striker's arrival to snl24.com/kickoff.

"Yes, there is one striker who is with us at the moment from Nigeria, he is training seriously, his name is Oke, I don't know the surname yet," Larsen says.

"But he just arrived a day ago, he had one training session with us. He was recently in Sweden, can't get the name of the team. But he just arrived yesterday and he had one training session with us.

"I can't judge [what kind of player he is] after one session, if he has played in Sweden he can't be bad. So we will have a look. We don't take a day to make a decision, we take ten days, usually a week or ten days," he adds.

"We are not in a position where we are desperate to sign, if we sign we will sign somebody that's really, really outstanding and can help us. Remember there's only three months of football left. The league finishes on the 11th of May so we've got to be very smart in terms of making sure whoever we recruit is going to be here long term.

"That's the only thing we care about from a striker... it's someone who can score goals. Too much is said about strikers, their movement, build-up play, but at the end of the day you judge a striker on the goals he scores.

"You can have all the different qualities, you can be strong, heading, you can hold up the ball, you can have good movement, but you've got to compliment all those qualities by putting the ball in the back of the net.

"So you know, I don't want to talk about the qualities we are looking for, what I would like to say is that we want to find a striker, like every other team, that can score consistently. You know we don't have strikers in our league that can get you 15 goals a season, and I don't think that's a big ask. So we are hoping to find one that can do that for us.

"But they are not easy to find, you could see in the last five to ten seasons the goalscoring rate has been very poor, and so we'll keep looking until somebody comes around and does the business."
