Gumede had a one-year option on his contract with the Citizens and recently told this website that he is waiting to hear from the club if they will exercise it. But City chairman John Comitis confirmed after last night's PSL awards in Sandton that they will not be keeping the former Orlando Pirates defender, who will now be in search of a new club for next season.
Gumede, who joined City in 2016/17, found himself spending more time on the bench during the past season, as coach Benni McCarthy preferred the central defensive partnership of Taariq Fielies and the departed Robyn Johannes. The 27-year-old Gumede made 15 appearances in all competitions.
Kobola, meanwhile, is also heading out when his contract expires next month. The experienced defender could not get ahead of Thamsanqa Mkhize at right-back and City feel they can do without his services going forward. The 33-year-old made just six appearances.
Comitis has confirmed that midfielder Surprise Ralani has extended his stay with the club for another season following his impressive performances since arriving in January.
The chairman, however, did not want to talk about players who will be joining the club.
“At the moment we are not in a position to announce players who will be joining us next season,” said Comitis.
