Supporters Forum: Nyiko the Bird Queen

In this edition of Supporters Forum, KickOff speaks to Moroka Swallows fan Tinyiko Masango about her long-standing affair with The Birds.

Name of Supporter?

"My real name is Tinyiko Masango, but I'm known as Nyiko the Queen Bird.

"I'm working for Nestlé as a technical administrator."

Club supported?

"I've always been a Swallows supporter even though my mom was a Kaizer Chiefs follower, and my father was a Buccaneer."

How long supported?

"From 1987 until today. Calvin Petersen was the reason I supported Swallows. That was my favourite player."

Are you happy with the bosses?

"Yes, they did rescue us when we were in the bushes [lower divisions], but they didn't do it to the level we were expecting.

"I'm very happy they brought back the name Moroka Swallows. Now I feel like we've made a comeback."

Are you happy with the coach?

"I didn't expect him to come and coach here [Steve Komphela], but his arrival will bring back the attraction again. I feel his appointment is a very good marketing strategy. I just need to buy myself a dictionary."

Are you happy with the players?

"I'm happy with players, but the only disappointment is that our messiah Yagan Sasman is leaving us."

Who do you want them to sign?

"Every year Swallows need to sign two or three players in the lower leagues. We need to give youngsters a chance."

Your message to the team?

"We finished the league well with Musa Nyatama, though others were saying he is an inexperienced coach.

"I hear people talking about finishing in the top four, but the top four isn't good enough for me, I want top two."
