My Dream Team: Shaun Haschick

In this edition of My Dream Team, former Moroka Swallows player Shaun Haschick lists the players he would have loved to play alongside in his football career.

The former Swallows and Bush Bucks player turned businessman, has selected a dream team, full of global stars.

What formation?

"To accommodate my dream team, I would look to accommodate a 4-5-1.

"With this defensive line-up nobody is getting close to the goal, and with the creativity, flair and speed going forward the attackers could unlock any defence it came up against."

Goalkeeper

"Gianluigi Buffon. A leader and commanding presence. Rock solid reliability, with the ability to pull out big saves when it mattered."

Defenders

"Cafu. The original wingback who could attack as well as he could defend. Able to supply crosses at one end while preventing them on the other. Tireless worker.

"Paulo Maldini. His ability to read the game was as unparalleled as his positioning. Worked smarter than harder but was never afraid to get stuck in.

"Franz Beckenbauer. Clinical disciplined and regimented. Credited with inventing the modern sweeper position, he was methodical and dominant in defence.

"Franco Baresi. The complete defender, consistent and physically dominant. He was relentless in the challenge but with the technical ability of a midfielder. Alongside Maldini, an unstoppable pairing."

Midfielders

"Xavi. A tireless worker whose ability to manipulate the space around him ensured he was always available to receive the ball. Had the ability to turn defence into attack at will with a single pass.

"Iniesta. His vision and technical mastery of the football made him almost appear he had extra time on the ball.

"Messi. An all-round threat as both a goalscorer and a playmaker. Quite possibly the greatest player to play the game. He can create opportunity out of nothing and do things with the football that others can't do even on PlayStation.

"Diego Maradona. A match-winner who could turn a game on its head with a single moment of genius. A big character who set the field alight with every touch.

"Ronaldinho. One of the most technically gifted footballers in the history of the game. His creativity and flair left the world enthralled whenever he got the ball. Pure magic."
